Thats it. I've had it. I'm never installing any Microsoft product again. (Xbox/Linux)

This is like Goliath running around snagging ants and burning them. I'm sick of it. I encourage you, if you have dual boot, to remove it with me.
so whats to keep them from reading how much we've used our PC? When we call tech support and want our Intel processor fixed, and they see that we leave our computer running all the time [I'm betting on some under-the-radar dealings of Intel paying MS for some info]; If microsoft broke these rights, the law, what's to keep Intel from denying us another processor? Or Microsoft not allowing us to use linux on our computer because we have a winmodem? Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but given MS's way of dealing and getting their way 99% of the time by throwing around their "use us or else" market bullying, I don't find this far out of their reach.
I think someone needs to step up and sue them before the courts become desensititezed to it.
Or maybe we can all rise to the challenge and continue hacking our way through the windows world.
I don't have winblows either, but all of my family still works with it, so I am like some kind of walking help center. But no complaints, the tide is finally turning, my father and sister are going to Linux instead of winblows...
But about being paranoid, you are right, at some point I get paranoid as well. It really is unbelievable how large the amount of spyware in windows is...
yeah definately I had no idea the xbox was reporting and auto updating itself. Its really freaky. I read somewhere recently that this is a leg up to eventually keeping us from copying cds/media to make backups/etc. Something about embedded security in our pc parts. But as soon as they don't allow two operating systems on one computer (they already won't let companies like Dell and HP do it, the contract they make them sign to put software on their computer only allows them to install windows and no other OS's on the hdd. WHich is total monopaly, but MS is dumbing all the windows users down so much that they will have no idea there is a possibility of another operating system so the court folks end up thinking its an unavoidable evil.
Xbox heim . A friend of mine has unlocked his Xbox with a chip to run besides emulators, fake games. I'm against piracy all the way, but the price they are charging for games without offering a free demo is madness. Some games can be half the price of an Xbox as Halo 2... Also, he wanted to run some emulators, which in my point of view, is the only thing Xbox is good at... Anyway, his Xbox also updated to Dashboard 2.0 when he got online (Xbox always goes automatically online unless you choose NO at the dashboard, YES is there by default, indeed). Well, the new dashboard has identified his modified chip at the Xbox and made it black listed, meaning that he cannot go Live with his box even removing the chip ever again . The guy at the link above could also have gone black-listed for the use of "strange" files on his HD...
For my friend, it's not a big deal, since we for a long time ago hated to play Xbox online... Halo multi-player brings me right back to my 386 processor with it's lack of speed (I've a 2.5 megabits broadband and my friend a 10.0 megabits broadband). I was saving money to get an Xbox myself, but I won't support MS, not only for the reasons above, but Xbox itselfs is a junky gaming box. When you see a game slowing down with few fps you bet it's a Xbox game. If it runs smooth it's either PS2 or Game Cube (which is freaking cheap now, and way cooler then Xbox...).
One more thing. Linux should never gone Xbox either. Why make a MS product more attractive for a company which clearly does not deserve it. You may say Xbox is a cheap PC, but you can find cheaper and better second hand PCs around...
Guess nobody here has read the book "Only the Paranoid Survive" written by Intel CEO Andy Grove. I wouldn't worry about the supposed "wintel" conspiracy, anyway. Intel probably already has plans to sell Linux optimized processors after Microsoft is gone... just in case. LOL
Distribution: Lots of distros in the past, now Linux Mint

All I can say is, "YOU BOUGHT AN XBOX?!!"
What were you thinking? Your Windows PC doesn't/didn't crash enough and make jump through enough hoops to prove that you aren't a criminal? You needed more?
It is just a pity the world doesn't realises that there are alternatives, FreeBSD, Linux, OSX,... You don't have to make your computer a CRASH-O-MATIC...

lol no I didn't buy an xbox but read about a dude that bought one and this happened to him. I have another friend who's all afraid of being illegal and stuff so I'll tell him when he connects his xbox to his cable even though he doesn't have live, it is taking part in an illegal action. Maybe he'll be more afraid of windows and want to move to linux then lol.

SO what do we do?
Genesee, thank you for that first link on the TCPA. I was familiar with againsttcpa.com, but this article goes a lot more in depth. Now I'm ULTRA paranoid!
I especially like the last bit about the definition of a trusted system.
There HAS to be a way to stop this from coming down before it's too late.... does anybody here have an insider at CNN, ABC, CBS, or NBC to get this on the evening news?
