I am sorry you have trouble with Nvidia, I like them and I have I been using Nvidia since way back when they only offered one driver update and your only option was, Windows 2000, windows mil, or Linux. I am new to Linux also and I have trouble with RedHat too, maybe you could try mandrake, I my self am going to try Peanut Linux it sounds cute and I know out there some where is just the right Linux for me. I don't expect every one to wear the same skirt/pants, and like it.

also you could to see if Nvidia has information on your problem, they had info for me when X went fooie.

No thanks,,, Now everything sucks in XP and works fine in Linux...
Time for another re-format of the xp partition and installation of the progs and codecs etc that i need..... *sighs*

I agree with trickykid, in windows you cannot simply type man in the command prompt and it show you full related and simply type linux in google and you will get billion or even million documentations all over the world.

i spent 1 days to get my first linux working on 2001 based text installation, ofcourse i am having hard time to make linux as server but now i am really happy coz it is has done and very stable.

Anyone know if there is a list of command line options for those truly lame batch of unix-posix like commands that are included with Windows distributions? (i.e. tracert, ping, ftp, telnet, etc.) many don't even do anything if you use the "/?" switch.

Linux docs at least exist, and are very informative once you find them (and the applicable version of them). Most of the time Window's docs are so "dumbed down" that there is no useful information in them.

I got peanut working I really like it, it is better than RedHat I think. Don't get me wrong it was not easy to install because I had to read the directions and I have to boot off a floppy but I will figure it out some day I had to configure all my hard ware too and it only took a 4 or 5 tryst to get internet access and video. It runs real smooth seems faster than any OS I have ever had. I think I may have found my distro. Now I need to read up on how to install OpenOffice.org.

Arguing over the merits/demerits of Windows and Linux is a total waste of time and words. They are both good Operating Systems, neither of them are perfect (and probably never will be).
As this is a Linux forum anyone who prefers Windows can only be posting here to stir the pot, and if you are interested in Linux at all, then don't rubbish it just because you've had a frustrating time.
Problems with Linux tend to boil down to lack of knowledge by the user, hardware incompatibilty, or a combination of both.
