Ive been running linux ( not as my main os) since i started. Depends what your using it for really, mostly wireless thats the same for everyone. My trackpad barely works under some distros with crap senstivity but that doesnt apply across the board, having booted a 800Mhz G4 last week and it being fine. The best idea is to use a distro like debian unless you feel like building alot of software your self, if thats the case google about for slackintosh. Slackwares always difficult for a newbie though. Ubuntu would be a good choice. Mainly linux for me has been fine apart for hardware support, jsut dont expect binaries to be available for you.
