but if u want to boot from a livecd , first you should have burned it correctly (using burn disc image in nero for example) , then you should enable in the BIOS that the first boot device is the cdrom
Since a livecd doesn't write or install itself to the hard drive on boot up, you can't use it to boot ME. There is no bootloader, so you only get to boot the cd itself. Your cd should be able to be booted if you go into the BIOS and set it to be the first boot device.
As your computer is booting you should see a message that says " hit del key to enter bios ", or something like that. Go ahead and hit the del key and see if that works, if it does, that is where you can change the option to boot from cd-rom. You will have to look for it as BIOS`s are different but have the same basic layout. Be careful, you could screw things up.
well its actually not on the computer im using, its for a friend.
but when it starts up, it doesnt show the gateway screen anymore, it just shows the me startup screen.
Look, the posters before asked you to post your BIOS type and to clarify what do you exactly intend to do with that ME disk. Unless you do that, nobody will be able to help you out. Even if it's a friend's PC, ask him details or tell him to post himself (this way we also get a new member ).
And what do you mean by a gateway screen?
ok so im not making my self clear.....the computer has me on it, and im trying to install pclos on in by way of a live cd. but how do i get it to boot from cd. i cant find a boot from menu when it starts up, anyway, where do i find the bios info?
When you first power on the pc, you get a screen which often says something like "Press F2 for setup" or something simila. Whatever the key (or key combination) it says you have to press is, you need to hit that key while that first screen is there.
In case you don't get an option to enter the BIOS when the computer is booting try holding down any key until you get a few beeps, this sometimes forces the BIOS option to show if it is turned off
