both of these things you could easily google for, the second one you could even just try it yourself and find out. so im not gonna give you the answers especially as its a homework question. i dont know what this forum's policy on homework is but i hope no one else answers this. this community is not here to spoon feed people, we are here to help people learn, if you find some documentation and need some help understanding it or try something and get unexpect results then feel free to post back but please dont come here blatently asking for answers.
I pretty much agree with kev82 on this, we shouldn't be doing your homework, this should be researched and understood, not 'spoon-fed'.
And as a second note, there really isn't a Linux Question here, in the future, if you question isn't about Linux, you can place it in the General section.
but in a way coming here and asking is doing research. also a person could ask questions and later on end up going to school and use the answers he was given here.
so i dont think it is really wrong to help with homework if someone is stuck, but i do question the difficulty of these two questions and think perhaps the answer would have been easily googled. but i could be wrong, each persons reality is unique to themselves. and in a frustrated moment this could seem the only solution. or it could be a way to break the ice and start a 'hi, im in computer science and i love learning about linux type things, how about you?' type converstaion to which i would reply' why yes i am in computer science right now and i absolutely love learning about all things computer and linux and i love my schools new linux lab.'
but in a way coming here and asking is doing research
yes, but i think klfreese was taking an easy way out.

nor do i, as i said in my first post "if you find some documentation and need some help understanding it or try something and get unexpect results then feel free to post back"
i have no problem helping people with homework, i dont see it is any different than helping anyone else on the forum but i do like to see that people put a little effort in before posting(regardless of whether its a homework question or not), if klfreese had shown any evidence of something other than typing the questions straight off the question sheet then i would have been glad to help but as i said we are not a bunch of spoon feeders.

Just to have me google it and get the answer right in the first result?
