slashdot alternative ?

I've seen lots of comments here and on slashdot about the demise of slashdot, and I'd have to agree, although I've gone to the site for many years.

So, are there any alternative sites for news that focus on technology, science, and a bit of miscellaneous ? We are NOT talking CNN here or anything like the mainstream garbage which slashdot has included more and more of. No prisonplanet either, I'm sick of their hate mongering just as much as I am sick of fear mongering on the mainstream. Something as interesting, accurate, and unbiased as possible.

Thanks.

i take it you are referring to the UI for
"slashdot BETA"

"hacker news"
it is a bit more "4chan'ish"

"techdirt"
"Ars Technica "
"Reddit "

Looks like techdirt and pipedot are great replacements, and I have bookmarked them.

Thanks for the input so far.
