She sells her 'life' on the Net

I knew that internet can be used for a lots of different things but this idea never came to my mind. What I wonder is how will her adventure end?In the world that is not so nice, doing something for strangers can be very dangerous. What do you think about this?

Makes perfect sense. Just another form of freelancing, with witty approach - your time for their money, without worries about portfolio, skills, finding buyers/projects, or fighting with other people that are after the project you want to get. Looks like a very good idea to me. Isn't stadard job the same thing as exchanging your time for money anyway?

p.s. I heard there already were people selling their souls on internet, so...

On the site, she sells time slots - ranging from eight-minute to one-day slots - where she offers to perform any service, except "sex, porn, violence and anything illegal".
This suggests that she does take it seriously and will watch out for herself.

As for the idea, it's not a bad idea, but I don't think it will last. People will get bored telling her what to do and then the income will stop. Besides, she is only one person in one city. However, if she got more people together to join her, she may get something going ... something that could potentially earn a lot of money.

Agreed.
Maybe some of us here at LQ should join together and start a business? LOL :D

Well, if you think about it, how many times have you needed someone to do something for you, but everyone you know is busy or doesn't want to do it. I think it would be nice if there would some public servant there to help. If she can make a system in which if someone needs something all they need to do is get in contact with her or her colleagues via messenger, cell phone, or whatever, and they'll be right over to help.

I remember that there used to be a delivery service that you would call and they would go and get food from your favorite restaurant (which does not itself offer delivery) and bring it to you. I found that useful. Many times I've also found myself in a situation where it would be useful if I could call on someone who is not busy to help out with a task. For some reason everyone I know is always busy at such times ... what a coincidence.

I'm not sure if that's what she plans, but it might work.

I think this chick has the wrong impression about the "meaning of life." No one's life has any meaning except that which they give it.

But no one can do that for anyone else. The truth is, we are all useless. We busy ourselves with work, school, or whatever, but the value of what we actually "accomplish", if anything, is up to each of us as individuals to determine. So she can let other people tell her what to do forever, but regardless of what she does and for whom, her life will remain meaningless until she decides to assign it some meaning.

The fact that she specifies no "sex, porn, violence, or illegal acts" indicates to me that she does attach meaning of some significance to her life. She wants to help people, but not to immoral ends, and I actually respect that a great deal. But, I also think she significantly undervalues (and probably underestimates) herself. And that sucks.

@ FlGator81

I agree completely. Life has no meaning other than that which you might assign to it. Me, I haven't assigned any meaning to it yet.

"meaning of life" is a complex question, without "right" or "wrong" answers. I wouldn't claim that my answer for that is "right" and someone else's is "wrong". There is no "right" or "wrong" answers. "Life has no meaning" is one of popular answers to "meaning of life", so it is as valid as any other answer - everyone picks answer that suits them. It is same as religion, but people normally don't go berzerk because of this question.

The whole thing reminds me taking quests (and earning money) in RPGs, and, I must admit, spending time like that and getting paid for that could be much fun. At least, I think so.

I can't agree. The title explains very good what she is doing. Why is that so?It's because she is at other people disposal and they can and they do control her life the way they want and when they want and the fact that she said that her life has no meaning is making that very easy.

Another user on this board, the name I don't recall, has a great sig: "There are no answers, only choices." To me, that sums up the whole meaning of life question perfectly.
