Setting up a PHP environment

Hello all,

Couple of questions mainly pertaining to versions of new software that came out and need updating. I am using lynda.com to learn PHP and I am setting up the environment but running into problems.

For example number 1 is that the splash screen is different in XAMPP when running localhost in the browser after starting Apache. It loads a site which does not allow me to set the database (MySQL Superuser) passwords. How do I navigate this new site. Screenshot below

The normal splash screen is orange with the XAMPP logo and a language selection at the botom if this can be identified.

Second problem is that in the PHP configuration there is a setting I don't know how to change. The error reporting value on the phpinfo page is 22527 instead of 32767. Its updated in the php.ini file of course, but the instructions are for an older version of php.

I have one more problem but I can ask that later. I won't bother you with it yet. Thanks so much for all the support.

Wel-l-l ... did you say that you were "learning PHP?"

Wel-l-l ... welcome to debugging. The first thing that you must do in each case is to look at available sources ... such as the Apache access and error logs ... to see what is actually happening. Then, you need to deduce how this is different from what you want to occur.

And if you find that you are following instructions written for an older PHP, you have to chase down what the differences are!

Furthermore, it is extremely difficult if not impossible for any of us to assist you, because we aren't there.

I'm not trying to be "catty" or "tacky" here. Look at those log files, find relevant parts, and post just a few lines, say. We'll help to point you in the right direction for deducing how the behavior that you're seeing differs from the behavior that you want, and what can be done about it.
