Second language

Just out of curiosity, how many here speak 2 or more languages?
I'm curious because recently I have been trying to learn Norwegian.

Um, you probably mean fluently, huh? None, counting English. As for languages I can fumble badly, in order: French, Spanish(uh, Mexican Spanish), Russian. In addition, I know enough German, Italian, and Swahili to know better than to try and impress anyone. Naturally, I know curse words in a couple more.

Yes, I know English is the most widely used language and the most common second language for many people.

English, swedish, spanish, portuguese, italian. Those I have fluency with. I'm learning german (easy for swedish peoples) and japanese (self-study and I might start reading it soon at school too, though, I don't have much use for japanese, it's my dream to learn this language very well). Not bad, I think .

I speak English as my primary language, but I can also speak French reasonably well (though I make many mistakes...)

The best way to learn a language is to go and spend some time in the foreign country (though you should learn some basics before going!)

My first language is Southern. Vietnamese is the second language I learned. Guess where. I am also adequate in French, and can get by in Spanish.

Michael,
Who was once a marine in a Southeast Asia paradise.

A Joke that I learned in Europe.

What to you call someone who speaks three languages? Tri-lingual.

What do you call some who speaks two languages? Bi-lingual.

What do you call some who speaks only one language.

An American.

My native language is chinese, and my second language is English . I don't know how to master so many languages like you are.God , may be studying English is terrible enough for me,hehe.Too many words for chinese if they want to have a GRE or Toefl test,I think some of these words may never be used even in a English-speaking country.Oh , what a pity for the none-English-speaking countries.

Well, I know a couple of languages, but I myself can't figure out which is my native language. I suppose it is one of these: Mandarin, Cantonese or Tai-shan(Chinese dialect).... but I also speak english, of course, and Japanese and Malay... which is the weakest of all :P

I speak the following english dialects:

Southern
Mid-Western
Valley
New Englander

and I speak a bit of German, enough to order a beer and ask where the bathroom is.

I tried to learn Spanish in school, but none of it 'stuck' because I never had to use it.
