Russia Doesn't Trust Google--Developing Secure Android

This Asia Times story caught my eye:

Quote:
It has been well publicized that Google collects personal data from Android users in order to target them with advertising. Less than pleased that that sensitive information could find its way into US government, the Russian defense ministry has developed its own stripped-down and encrypted version of the operating system especially for government and military devices. This week it was announced that the prototype platform would be available to the public by the end of the year.

I don't trust Google either but I certainly wouldn't trust a Russian government sponsered development of Android. I have no doubt they'd remove Googles tracking code but I also have very little doubt they would put their own in.

Well, they are developing it for use by their own government personnel. For consumer use, I guess I would trust it just as much as I would trust something developed by the NSA.
