Running Linux Knoppix in Microsoft Virtual PC
Hi guys, I'm newbie in Linux, I have a problem, I could run Linux Knoppix (I don't know the version, if I'm not mistaken, it was 3.6, it's a live-CD version) in Microsoft Virtual PC, but the problem is :
1. There were no titlebar in each and every running applications in Linux Knoppix, so it was impossible for me to move or minimize the application when it is needed. 2. Many applications won't run at all, such as the one that has to do with desktop settings 3. My drives (that is located in my harddisk) couldn't be mounted at all Oh yeah, I face the same problem when I use direct CD and the CD image to run Knoppix. Can anyone help me, please.... Thanks in advance.. |
Why boot it into a virtual machine!!
Its a live cd just put it in your drive and reboot, its not going to harm any of your hard drives or mess with your windows install, thats the whole idea of a live cd. |

Thank you for the replies guys
Hi, guys, thank you very much for the replies, but if I run from the CD-ROM, my CD-ROM drive sould be damaged in short period for sure, that's why I would like to run it using image, and also what VMWare is good enough to run Knoppix in its best ?

Its not going to damage your cdrom drive, Linux is much more efficient at memory management that windows and doesn't need to keep reading a bunch of files over and over once its booted up.
I beleive there is a download of knoppix listed on the free vmware player page already setup for vmware that you can download the player for free and use. one thing you will notice is running linux under windows linus will appear to ve very slow, this is due to the poor design of the windows memory management system, its much faster to run windows under vmware so don't let it fool you into thinking linux is slow. |
