I am interested in getting some Linux Certification. I already had enough experience to install and setup a Linux Server.
I feel Linux+ Certification is very entry level, and i am wondering whether its worth getting Linux+ Certified!. Instead of Linux+, i would like to do RHCT & RHCE.
Can any one suggest me whether to put my money towards
Linux+ Certification? or directly for RHCT& RHCE?.
depends on how comfortable you feel. personally, i've heard that RHCT/E is very hard so i'm gonna do linux+ first to make sure i've got the basics down. then give myself a good bit of time(at least a couple months) to goof around with an old server i'm putting together and do the old install/setup/break/fix/break/reinstall/do it again...
The RHCE test is very hard, I have seen people that are in the field working with linux and unix for more than 7 yrs fail. The average passing rate is about 28% of all that take it, and most have to take it more than 1 time. I beleive the average is actually 3 times to pass.
I did the Linux+ test. It was not easy, but it was not real hard either. It tested a very broad and general knowledge of Linux. Most of the questions were based on Redhat.

I passed mine in October of 2002
Good stuff...
how valuable do you think Linux+ has been to you though?
right now im studying for the Network+ certification, but then i do plan on doing the Linux+. I was going to do the A+ first, but it seemed a longer course and 2 exams, which right now i havent the time to work for.
the RHCE is something that looks quite interesting to me, but right now i dont feel i know nearly enough to take it. Once iv done the A+, Linux+ and Network+, i might consider it
isnt the RHCE a lot more expensive to take though? and is it offered in the UK?

The RHCE is tough, but very fair. I have taken Sair, LPI and RHCE and would say the RHCE is really in a different class than the other two. I've yet to see the Linux+ so I can't comment on that one.

Just out of curiosity, did you do a self study or did you take one of the week long cram sessions that Red Hat offers? I have several of the RHCE self study books, but given the difficulty of the test, I don't know if this would be enough preperation. Obviously I would be doing hands on examples with my home network, but still......
Thanks every one!. I too feel RHCE is too tough. SO after reading all your replies, i feel i should get first Linux + and then go for RHCE with lots of hands on experience. I think Linux+ certification along with my MCSE and CCNA should give me a better opportunities than the present
RHCE is quitte tough, and i think that that is the only way to keep te certification valueble.
Microsoft exams are far to easy, because they don't include any labsessions. So if you can read and remember things easy it's not such a big deal to become MCSE or so.
IMO labsession are very important.
And if you want a hard study then take the one that i'm doing at tis moment: CISSP
I know that there has not been a post in this subject in sometime, but I wanted to throw my hat into the ring. I just took the Linux+ exam and I felt it was a average test. You really do have to have a good understanding of basic terminology and command syntax. If anyone allready has A+ this about 5 or 6 questions will be a cookie cutter from that.
I am now studying for the LPI. I think that's a safe road to go, because you can self study and achieve it without having too much trouble.
Has anyone taken the LPI exam(s) recently? can anyone give comments on what to possibly expect from it.
Thank You
