I need help with a problem. I will start from the beginning and explain what I did before everything.
I installed Suse linux 9.3 with GRUB about a week ago after I formated the windows partition. Some days ago I booted from a windows cd and removed the linux partitons and installed windows instead, because that was what I was planning to do from the beginning.
Now when I have installed windows "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" appears every time I boot. But when I use the windows xp boot cd it works and somehow can boot from the harddrive. I have tried "FIXMBR" and "FIXBOOT" but it won't work even if it appeared to be succefull.
Thankful for help, i've been sitting 5-8 hours a day the whole week. I most fix this. It's strange that it doesn't work even if I formated the partitions, it shouldn't be any data left there!
You will probably need to boot Linux with a rescue CD to run grub-install. The Windows installation has trashed it. You may need to update grub.conf once you have linux booting restored (you may get to a point where linux boots, but windows doesn't) because there probably wasn't an entry for Windows there, prior to the Windows install. For all of these reasons, I prefer to install Windows first, and Linux afterward, when I do a dual-boot setup. Linux knows how to do the right thing, but Windows doesn't.
