Really neat phenomenon

recently, I was frustrated with a certain group of IT staff that didn't know what a non-routable IP looked like <devilish-grin/>. However, I noticed that someone had gone buck nutty with plugging things into the switch. Being one to try and maintain some form of "decency" and intelligence, I removed a DSL modem that was plugged with crossover cable directly into the switch. After struggling with a firewall, I was fed up, and plugged the DSL modem back into the switch, saw the orange "Line error" light go on, and told a windows machine to connect to the internet with WinPOET. 10 minutes later I was reading my email. Anyone else ever seen something like this? it's quite an interesting way of having things done.
