read this before purchasing from ebuyer

To be brief I have had problems when purchasing various goods from ebuyer, basically I think that everyone here that I have met so far has been helpful and reasnable, this is why I am submitting the following article so that others who buy new 64 bit and other top end systems dont have to go through the hassle I have had to go through, as well as dealing with cowboys. The next article is worth the read, for anyone considering the purchase of computer goods and who dont want to go through never ending RMA processes amongst other more shocking things see below:

-- sorry if i double posted its just it didnt seem to post correctly the first time--

the following is the threads on ebuyer, I sent all the dates and there responses to let them no that I wasnt letting this go anyway I will let you all judge for yourself and hopefully save many people the bull that I have had to go through as well as the money loss [watch the dates]

ebuyer threads---------

For every day that goes buy without a satisfactory reply from this day forward I will be posting the following to various forums and tomorrow I meet with my local newspaper.

see below

below explains the start of this saga to the end, the above paragraph is my LAST angry post as at that point I have been waiting well over 1 month after returning to 2 faulty geforce5950ultra graphics cards 1 of which was dead on arrival---see below for some "You couldnt make this up, reading"

---------------start of forums,MP and local newspaper submision------------

Firstly I would just like to say that this is going to be a lengthy response as I want to give the full and shocking saga I have had with ebuyer.

On 23/04/2004 I ordered the following goods........

1 x Asus K8V-SE Deluxe S754 VIA k8t800 ATX Sound Gig lAN Firewire USB 2.0 FSB 800 Retail Box 59993 Invoiced £78.87

1 x Kingston 1GB 400MHz DDR Non-ECC CL3 (3-3-3) DIMM (Kit 2) 49296 Invoiced £136.26

1 x AMD (Newcastle) Athlon 64bit 3400+ 754pin/512kb L2cache Retail Boxed with 3 Year Warranty CPU 58432 Invoiced £256.15

1 x Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro-PCI Soundcard With 7.1 Dts Support + External I/o Box 52726 Invoiced £147.51

1 x Casecom KG-666-B 400watt Atx Case In Black With USB/Audio/1394 56988 Invoiced £19.99

1 x XFX Geforce Fx5950 Ultra AGPx8 256MB TV-Out DVI VIVO Retail Box 54998 Invoiced £249.43

After receiving the above goods and opening the package I found that the
casecom black tower front panel hinge was broken and also that the cover for the front usbs was broken off. At this point I was disappointed but I wanted the system set up. After building the new system I booted it up and right from the word go, there were artifacts all over the screen which were being caused from a faulty geforce xfx5950 ultra, I was a bit disgusted to say the least, but I sent the card back registered delivary which cost £6.55 after going through ebuyers lengthy RMA process. Ebuyer notified me that they had received the goods within 1 to 2 days. I also sent an enote about the tower but said I was willing to overlook this if I could get the graphics card replaced. Ebuyer then invoiced the replacement card on 05/05/04 and it arrived some time after that. I put the card in and it seemed to be okay , there were know artifacts at this time. This was only temporary as after approximately 1 month the card had artifacts once again ........ I was livid! as I have built lots of pcs and knew that I had taken the necessary precautions. I then preceded to go through ebuyers consumer pays all RMA process AGAIN, I at this point decided I wanted a refund but suddenly realised that there one sided returns policy did not allow refunds after 1 month. I then submitted the following enote on the 11th august 2004

enote quote-------------------------------------------------------------------

(Invoice:1723409 Product:54998) I have had nothing but trouble from this card since I ordered it this is the 2nd one that has had to returned. This one has lasted one month approximately and is now showing artifacts and a generally distorted screen I have tested the system in question with other hardware and it is functioning 100% correctly , it is only goods from ebuyer that has given me problems. I have friends who have had to return RAM (from ebuyer ) 3 times and I am certainly not prepared to go down that road. I feel that ebuyer on this occasion should refund my postage as registered mail is not exactly cheap and I do not think it is fair that I should have to foot the bill for ebuyers faulty goods perhaps your quality control could do with an overhaul. I would much prefer a refund but it seems you do not allow that after 30 days; is the 30 days ominus?

I hope for an early reply as my colleagues on the forums await the outcome.

end enote quote----------------------------------------------------------------

I then sent the faulty card back via registered delivery(AGAIN!) which cost me another £6.55. After a few more days ebuyer said that they recieved the card and that the a technician thought the heatsink had been tampered with. Consequently I 100% know I did not tamper with or touch the geforce fx5950 heatsink (however read on there’s an interesting comment from ebuyer regarding why the card may have a faulty part later on in this complaint) Back to the current point in this saga....... the enote im describing from ebuyer is below

enote quote EBUYER reply 16th august 2004-----------------------------------

(Invoice:1723409 Product:54998) XFX Heasink seems to have been tampered with. One screw isnt flush. Also there is a screw missing.

This Item Has Been Returned To The Manufacturer For Repair/Replacement. This may Take Up To 28 working Days
enote quote EBUYER reply END--------------------------------------------------

I couldn’t believe this because as mentioned earlier I knew I had not touched the heatsink

On the same day I replied with the following enotes

enote reply start from me 16th august----------------------------------------
In reference to the above statement...... what is being implied here? I have certainly not messed with the heatsink and I have fitted many pieces of har

Mon 20th September 2004 03:57:pm John walker contuation of where important note has been cropped......... how convienent
I have certainly not messed with the heatsink and I have fitted many pieces of hardware.... the only hardware I have had any problems with is the shoddy materials from ebuyer. If there is anything wrong with the heat sink it is because it was initially received like that or that the goods I am being sent may previously have been sent? But I can assure you its not down to me. I also would ask that I get a new card NOT a replacement after all this is my 2nd return...(or better still a full refund) Please also bear in mind that my first card was half blown when I recieved it, so both instances of fault are not with me. Besides there are other friends I know who have had to send such things as RAM back 3 times and they consequently ended up getting a refund.

Please dont send a repair send new replacement
John

enote reply end from me 16th august----------------------------------------

Ebuyer replied with the following

reply start 17th august 2004 -----------------------

Dear John,

Ticket: 323667

Many thanks for the enote.

We have checked with the technician and he believes the heatsink has been tampered with - That is why we are returning it to the manufacturer for further testing (And checking) before we consider any action.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Regards,
Ebuyer
reply end 17th august 2004 -----------------------

At this point I couldn’t believe they were trying to pass the buck to someone who had done nothing wrong. After more tedious waiting I sent the following enote

enote start

It is worth noting that on the 16th of august I sent another enote. Now this is where it gets interesting ....... One of ebuyers other employees sent the following reply saying thanks for the enote and that ebuyer may have sent me a card from there blowout section(Yet I’m the one that’s getting grief regarding the heatsink? VERY confusing?) see the reply in question below.

enote contradictory reply----------------------------------------------

Thank you for your recent contact with ebuyer.

All items should be brand new first condition items unless stated otherwise. If you think you have been sent a used item at some point then it is possibly a mix up with one of our items from the blowout section.

Regards,
Ebuyer.

enote contradictory reply end----------------------------------------------

I have put in numerous other enotes and still have had no satifactory reply or replacement card, It is now the 20th september 2004.

I would appreciate if anyone could advise me as to the names and addresses of the directors of ebuyer as I intend to pursue this as long as it takes.

John Walker

Mon 20th September 2004 04:02:pm John walker end of forum, local newspaper and MP submission
1 month waiting and still Im being ignored as mentioned above , EVERY day that goes buy The previous statement will be getting submitted to various places, this is not going to do ebuyer any good. Please resolve this

John

------ebuyer threads end

The morals of this are

1. If you by from a company never send the hardware back as after a extremly short period of time you dont qualify for a refund

2. Dont buy from ebuyer unless you like getting treated like the above

Hope I save others all the above hassle
Regards
David

Your article doesn't seem to have appeared - however, I am very aware of ebuyer and have the following comments.

Ebuyer offer some very good prices on products, but as with everything in life, you get what you pay for.
The way ebuyer have set up their business seems to be to offer some very low prices on goods at the expense of service. There's nothing wrong with this.

If service is important to you, you should use your local independent specialist. They can advise you on the best solution for you, they usually have some kind of instant returns policy, and are generally exceptionally helpful. But they are not the cheapest.

If price is more important, use Ebuyer - Very cheap prices, but the stock is not consistent, quality of some products can be questionable, and service is not a priority.

However, which ever you choose, please don't complain that you can't have your cake and eat it!

This shouldn't be taken personally, it's just a comment on the way the IT hardware reseller industry is going.

Yours

F0ul_ Oli
