PVFS vs. other alternatives

I'm trying o build a cluster, where all of the nodes only have 2GB HDs. I was wondering if theres a way to implement PVFS before installation, so I can use all the HDs for installation purposes and allow all the HDs to work in perfect harmony(like the CPUs are supposed to). Does anybody know of other alternatives?
