psu problem

i think this is the right place for this, anyway..

i have a really old box that i run slackware on and the psu has started to go. the problem is its not a regular 20pin plug into the motherboard. there's 2 6 pin connectors that go into a 12pin socket on the motherboard.

nowhere seems to stock these types of psu. can anyone point me in the right direction? cheers.

This sounds like an AT style PSU for the old AT style motherboards, probably most don't sell or even most companies don't manufacture such PSU's. Your best bet is to probably hit up eBay or something like that, not sure about local stores in your area, not in the UK.

Also, this belongs in General, not Linux - General since its not a direct Linux technical question.

Google is your friend !
Take a look at some of the cables from this UK supplier
and see if any might match your requirements
http://shopping.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/ss_...to_24_pin.html

I dont know if the 20-24 pin adapters / connectors will solve your problems
but there might be something there that will

Ps what makes you think your PSU is on the way out ?
You can stick a vacuum cleaner to the fan outlet and suck the dust out
apart from that its mainly the big smoothing capacitors that go

Just further to what I said
I think you currently have AT/LPX connectors
see fig 3.1 on this page
http://www.informit.com/articles/art...&seqNum=3&rl=1
so if you change you will need either
an adaptor to match new PSU to older mobo
or an older PSU to match
however after googling around I cant find an adaptor
hope you have better luck

hope this helps

there's a horrible noise coming from the fan in the psu, so i'll try your vacum idea.

thanks for all your help and sorry about the wrong location :/
