there is a thing in law called ex post facto.

new laws cant affect you after the fact. like if a law went out saying every car has to have airbags, cars already in use would not have to go and have airbags installed (unless the law was written and actually said so).

but his whole, patenting of ideas would get seriously out of had. how would u do it. some nut runs in off the street and says "i have an idea for software that will allow a computer to hear and then email someone if it hears something". then what..i have to pay the guy to actually write that software?? hell, most of that software is actually written...i'd just have to piece together some stuff.

it's clearly crazy, but politicians dont know any better.
