Hey,

What the heck happened to KDE and GNOME's home pages? The page you are forwarded to is a little bit confusing...

Whats not to get? KDE and GNOME are protesting software patents in Europe. I assume some bill is about to be passed.

Good for them.

its so anti american , like its notiz or however its spelled
saying that prosecuted for publishing texts you wrote yourself!, its so wrong its not funning , I am a american and I don't like sites that hurt the open source stuff like linux, its just anti american to say something like this. Why don't the US send to a message to get off the net , or else!!! they are nothing more than like the bad people that attacked the US.but they are know attacking outside the US to attack freedom, with their anti open source movement. next I wonder why they have not attack Microsoft with a message hacking their site too saying Software patents can get you prosecuted for publishing texts you wrote yourself!
I mean bill gates writes text and published it in Windows so why don't they attack microsoft too, I bet they would send over the US merines to Europe. and cut their phonelines and net access off from the US

I mean what right do European Patent Office have to attack US web sites, I live in the US and access the net here , what right do these Europe people have to hack linux sites that are respected by US people that may use linux
I am a 56 modem U.S ,CA user that does not like what they have done to the kde site , I use SuSE 8.2 Pro , and I feel that their actions are a attack on US people more, maybe they think since 9-11 , US people are weak and vonuble to attacks and that we are going to do nothing about it. which is a wrong since of mind really that is, Attacking Linux and trying to take down Linux is nothing more than a Attack on Freedom and etc. just plan wrong...!!!!!!!!!!!.

What the hell are you talking about? They are protesting SCO/Software patents.

THEY TOOK THEIR OWN WEBSITE DOWN.

You should read a little bit more carefully.

There is a bill thats about to be passed in EUROPE allowing easier software patents, and KDE and GNOME are protesting it. Since they are popular, they want to attract attention to their cause.

Did you even read the website they redirected you to?

I've just signed up. I can't see anywhere on the site any anti-US sentiments. Unless, of course, protesting freedom is anti-US!!

The page is asking us to fight the proposals to allow patenting of ideas. This is a good thing - we should not patent ideas as this can only kill development of new software, etc.

I would urge all users here to sign the petition.

It's our wonderful EU gravy train mandarins sucking up to the big boys again while no doubt feathering their own beds.

int x=0;
int y=1;
int z=x+y;

I demand a patent!!!! And I'll sue if you use that code. Well maybe not that extreme

I had the idea for that code first! In fact, I have patented the 'x' across 16 dimensions and other made up areas.

I even have Bono working pro bono to protect my ideas - many of which I will only remember I had first after you try to patent them.

Bwahahahahahaha

General discussions like these belong in General, not in Linux - General where we reserve for more technical type questions regarding Linux, not where certain web pages forward you to.

Regards.

I would think Bill Gates Would be against the Idea patent. Isn't it true that Apple had windows "Idea" first? Apple would then have legal means to sue MS for stealing their idea. All those back licensing fees for using that windows idea. Apple patents windows.

I'd hate to think that an educated American would have such bad grammer and spelling. Of course with your logic, I'm assuming you must be really young!

That sounds fair carrja99,

But if you really want to see "piss poor" spelling and grammar, then you need to see what the "kids" are churning out in the UK these days.

They seem to think that the 169 (or however many characters it is) characters is the maximum number of letters or numbers that can be used to construct sentences.

The disease used to be called "nintendo finger", now it's new name is "nokia" thumb .

regards

John

maximalred,

Looks like GNOME supports it. They discuss the EU Patent legislation on their news page.
