I am a complete Linux noob. I just installed RH9 on my machine and think its really great; however, I am having a real problem figureing out
how you linux peeps install apps.

I have hit just about ever site imagineable trying to get a good explanation of the process of installing things. Obviously there is no InstallSheild like windows, and I am learning about the Terminal commands. Is there a better resource available to help me understand this process?

All I am really trying to do is get some mp3, and RealAudio support for XMSS, and some Video codecs installed; but i dont even know what files to look for at xmms.org/download.php
