prescription drugs and sleep

well, I just spent the last eight and a half hours cruising this board, I have to get up in half an hour, and I'm not the least bit sleepy, why? because I have narcolepsy, which should rightfully make me go to sleep, but I have rittlin, just started on it, and apparently, when they say take it at lunch they dont mean 2:00pm even though I do eat late...or maybe my body is just going to take some time to adjust sigh...oh well, I got to spend some quality time at the boards and doing some research. I kind of like it, but I know I'll pay later, so....to make this not a useless thread where I dont really rant, but talk in a generally not so happy as I should be way, I'll ask, has or does anyone here take prescription drugs that ended up really messing with them? temporarily or otherwise? I've heard anti-depressants can really give you problems and even the most innocuous of drugs can have very odd effects on certain people.

[edit]
also, what do you do to pass the time when you KNOW you wont be sleeping, and you dont have anything to do (parents upstairs and you dont wanna wake them)
[/edit]

1. Get a one-pound hammer.
2. Strike yourself with vigor in the frontal lobes, alternating left and right.
3. Repeat as necessary.

What do you want? A sleeping pill?

Instead of ridilin use something called Concerta, this lasts 12 hours so you take it in the morning and you dont have to take it all day. This, however, is much more expensive than dexadrin (which is another longer lasting drug). Its a dollar or two per pill.

For sleeping pills I would suggest something like dormex, its an over the counter sleep aid, it works well.

well, I just got back from school an hour ago, going on about 34 hours without sleep and I actually feel just about the best, most alert, and focused that I've ever felt in my life...very very interesting...I bet I'll still end up paying later though...

Uh... this isn't the place for your personal medical needs. Consult a doctor for it. Just for your information, I am in the same boat as you, though.

I only get 2-4 hours of sleep every night. I usually just go downstairs when my parents are asleep, but don't do that unless you are 100% sure you can't sleep, and after a while, come back up, even if you don't feel sleepy. Just don't wake your parents or leave any evidence

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black squall. This also isnt the place to discuss your everlasting love for trickykid and yet you constantly do it.

Don't comment on others unless you are perfect.

What the HELL are you talking about? Do you see any mention of trickykid in this post ANYWHERE? And my answer was perfectly relevant.

No, I am talking about the 50 other threads you put it in. He has just as much right to ask that because there are no restrictions for this forum (well a couple but this isnt one of them). If he wants to ask, he can.

Look Pauli, you're contradicting yourself. You're destroying a thread that had NOTHING to do with you or trickykid an accusing me of crimes. If you have hate messages, or a bone to pick, or death threats, send them to Squall@linuxquestions.net and don't pollute the forums with this.

What I've noticed is that I feel EXTREMELY alert the day i get no sleep, but a day after, I sleep through half my classes.

The reason I made the "consult a doctor" comment is because Narcolepsy is a serious medical condition that can be harmful to other people if you aren't paying attention.

If you can't get any sleep, I'll be on here too

Actually I think you mention my name more than any other member, your making me go out of style.

Lets move on with the topic please. If you have nothing constructive to say Pauli and are not going to contribute to the threads when reading them, etc, then move on. You seem to be getting to personal with other members and I'm not asking you, I'm telling you to stop it now.

Anyone got a problem with the above statements, email me to discuss, if not, move on.

Regards.

I have consulted a doctor, thats why I'm on rittlin, I posted in the first place because I was bored, and as you probably know, sleep deprivation does odd things to you, anyways I was just wondering if anyone else had odd interactions with prescription drugs because I find the human body and its reaction to chemical stimulus fascinating why not rant about the crazy stuff our doctor gave us, and I'm sure even if they arent on meds there are plenty of users on these boards with sleep problems, whats the harm in sharing ways to get to sleep or wake up again in the morning?

There is no harm, I in fact posted my tips. But I would strongly discourage any discussion of medication.

What was your last post about. I'm so sleepy, I can't even read it. Oh the irony .

Me thinks they use ritalin way too much. Back in the 60's when I was a boy, I know, I am old, they wanted to put me on ritalin. My mother told them no. I also had dyslexia. Guess what, the dyslexia pretty much disappeared, and as far as being a hyper kid, I have gone to the other extreme, and am very, very laid back now. I know there will be instances where ritalin does help, but I think it is used way too much.
