and that's Gnome or a faux Gnome for your?
I saw a faux gnome somewhere using 2 fbpanel's and it was fluxbox with no toolbar and it looked just like gnome.
I just wish I could get flux really transparent, etc without using xcompmgr, etc
is that Lenny?

that's just Gnome, a little bit personalized. I'm using Debian Squeeze with a Sid kernel.

At least one fluxbox^^. I use sawfish. I don't thing there's anything more customizable than it.
When you "minimize" all windows, you only get the background. No annoying bar/icon anywhere. I'm not a big fan of bars/menus/icons so I don't use any. Just an xclock and a terminal (gnome or x).
I actually stopped using GNOME because of that, the new version couldn't get gnome-panel killed so you had to move the program to not run it every time...
In this screenshot I'm reading my email (in emacs' mew). Did you all get that mail from dyndns?^^

I kinda like gnome 'cause it makes everything so accessible, and i can access my hard drives just with a press of a button and for me that's pretty handy when I'm drinking my coffee or when I'm kinda laizy 8-)

This fluxbox seams pretty cool, I think I'll give it a try too. I would like a clean look on my desktop.

Nothing fancy here - just simple functionality. Mandriva 2010.1 w/ modified LXDE. Background image shot 20090929, Owatonna, MN.

Another simple minalmist desktop. I usually hide the task bar. This is Mepis 8.5 KDE 4.3 with the Picture Frame applet running.

I like a real clean desktop and love xfce.

The thin grey line at the right is the hidden taskbar.

When I clicked that an overlay popped in front of it. I clicked the 'X', but I might have missed it, and a tab opened up titled "LiveJasmin.com - Amateur Webcam Shows - Free Live Sex". I closed it before it had a chance to load, but I still feel kinda creeped out :(

Interesting, that never happened before. Maybe I can link it directly, here I'll change the link:

After looking at your desktops, I decided to try my hand at setting up lxde. Since I have a dual core processor, and 4 GB of RAM, you might not think something like lxde has a place on my system, but I usually have VirtualBox open most of the time for college and Windows 7 is a real memory hog, especially when trying to run more than one instance of it.

Before setting this up, I had a Gnome session, and before that, Awesome (turned out to be too complex for me). Now if only I could get openbox to tile (really tile, no pseudo crap) or get some other tiling window manager to play nice with panels, and I'd be in good shape.

Good to know I'm not the only one who was creeped out...
