You don't know these users. Trust me, stuff moving around on the
desktop background will confuse them =)
I had my sf project running one time (geolocation project that
generates backgrounds of what internet connections you have going),
and the fact that my background changed was quite a shock to some
of them.
I'm not complaining either, but I think maybe a battleship or zero or maybe a Honda would have been better than hello kitty ... but some people like hello kitty and take it to the extreme.
