Pop ups

Hi All,

I get pop ups sometimes even tho i don't have Internet Explorer up. Do you know where pop ups are stored? I've checked the RUN key in the registry (XP) and there is nothing there that is run to start a weird program (like spyware or anything of the sort) any ideas? I have a popup stopper but I thought I would nip this one in the bud and delete it from my hard drive...

any ideas?

theres a program that gets rid of all that stuff, its called ad-aware i think, im sure someone else can confirm that.

Correct, Adaware is a great app for windows. Gets rid of all know spy/adware stuff.
What sort of popup, a graphic image or something like a text message in a grey box?

Download and install Mozilla for Windows, it has the ability to block unwanted pop-up ads as well. Adaware will only temporarily get rid of them til the cookie or whatever is downloaded once again.

You can also configure the HOSTS file to map domain names of popup sites to localhost (127.0.0.1) which stops ads and popups.

If he's getting pop up ad's only when IE is open, then well, its only affecting IE as he most likely has cookies, etc downloaded to cause them to pop up. If he is getting ads without anything open, well, he needs to run adaware to rid of them.

But if you really hate annoying unwanted pop-ups when browsing, use Mozilla. It also has tabbed browsing which is nice, so you don't have a million IE windows open when working in Windows... :)

Sounds good guys...thats great. I'll get adaware and let you know how it goes. Thx tonnes for your replys!

Have you disabled the messenger service in the services panel? That stops unwanted messages popping up, the ones that are gray boxes, not the image ones.
