What the hell it could be? Its not Swedish is it? I thought it was first Swedish and then anagram and then md5 hashed.

If you can't decode it yourself, you don't deserve the job.

evil_empire 09-11-2009 11:12 AM

Admiral, I'm not looking for the job. The job may have expired already. Decoding it is my objective, because I'm curious by nature. I've tried everything I could.

Given the original message was written in english language, most likely the encrypted text is in english too. Looking at the only phrase ending with a question mark, you can easily guess what the first word in this sentence is. This should give you a clue about the encryption algorithm used. Note also the exclamation mark at the beginning of some words. In many scripting language it means negation or inversion, this suggests that the algorithm is reversed for some words. Do you need other advices? ;)

Congratulations,

You passed our idiot filter. What are your 3 favorite books? Please include at least one software engineering book- the others can be whatever- ie., physics, math, etc..

I must admit, at first I thought it was talking about some restaurant, looking for a cook, to prepare items from a small menu including eggs and alcoholic drinks :p

jiml8 09-11-2009 12:44 PM

Cute.

evil_empire 09-11-2009 03:39 PM

Hey,
What the hells happening guys? Has it been decoded or what? I dunno much about cryptography. I don't think I can sleep in peace before knowing this.

Thank you very much Grapefruit girl. And a spoon load of cow dung to all those of you acting smart, talking loud but can't-do-anything-but-increase-the-post-count kind of people.

Evil,

You'll never the job like this! http://ml-in.facebook.com/topic.php?...268&topic=7078

Who you are:

Maybe you're a seasoned software developer with years in the industry, or maybe you're a high school dropout who ditched class to read computer books and write exploits, but in either case, late nights programming for the sheer fun of it are familiar memories, and you have serious interest and at least some knowledge of computer security. You love eloquent solutions to complex problems as much as 'normal' people love gourmet food and great sex; you relish in picking up new languages, and you see yourself moving up in the engineering track, not the management track. You prefer developing against open source libraries to closed source libraries. You prefer open source UNIXes to Windows, but maybe you can't help but admire certain aspects of the way the Windows kernel was designed. You know that the IP header comes before the TCP header and that that's where the IP address goes, and know what RFC stands for, at the very least.

<snip>

The job:

1/3rd research (along with the rest of your team) and 2/3rds software design, implementation and testing. You would be working on a small team of security software engineers. We are researching new ways to reverse engineer kernel and process data structures to detect the presence of an attacker and analyze his or her behavior. A typical day's work might be, reading about and reverse engineering the Vista heap, implementing experimental code to detect exploits directed against this allocator, getting coffee with your co-workers and talking about your new discoveries while they talk about theirs (and you struggle to get a word in edgewise), and then writing some actual intrusion analysis code.

<snip>

Cover letter:

Please email a detailed cover letter in your response to [Diana's Email Address], telling us about your technical background, a bit about your life history and interests, and answering the following question (you have to 'decrypt' it first =)

NOTE: THIS IS A __FULLTIME__ POSITION, WE ARE __NOT__ LOOKING FOR CONSULTANTS. THANK YOU.

This position is located in Santa Monica, CA.

(My Emphasis)

Oh, and no one's post count is increased by acting smart in this thread. General does not increase one's post count :)

You kiddin'??? You have the method in post #7 and the solution in post #8 :p XavierP said that. Nobody increases his/her post count here. Have a nice night! :)

GrapefruiTgirl 09-11-2009 04:48 PM

I'd enjoy seeing a sed/awk/gawk something-or-other that could turn the original encoded message, into the decoded version.. Anyone?

Sasha :)

PS - I don't think it'd be TOOOO complicated, but I myself am rather "awkward" wrt awk.

Dhfess!

I did? I googled the code and got 2 results: this page and the Facebook page. I'm rubbish at these things, so good luck to all job applicants.
