people are strange

I've just come back from a gig without my mobile phone. I'm slightly angry. Why don't people give back mobile phones. Someone took it from a front pocket of my jeans. Bastards!!! I'm not a happy bunny now,

I'd like to write a few swear words but I'd refrain from doing it.

Your post doesn't indicate whether it was stolen or you lent it to someone and they didn't return it. I've let people into my pockets

If it was stolen (which I'm assuming) then yes they are bastards, if you lent it sorry but silly you.

On a more positive (or neutral) note, which phone would you recommend?

It's rare for a thief to be so dexterous as to steal from someone's front pocket ... unless you were in a crowded area.

I like cheap, simple phones (stupid phones rather than smart phones) because you can lose them and it's no problem. I like ones with a closing lid so I don't need a key lock (which never works properly).

Or if the thief was an attractive woman...

I'm sure you would notice if an attractive woman puts her hand in your front pocket

Well, at least they had the gentleness to not threat you with a gun to steal the phone, if that works as a consolation :-/

But talking seriously, as for which phone to buy, I guess it all depends on what are you looking for. I bought a LG phone (model T300) about 3 days ago and I'm happy with it so far. It's small and has a touch screen. Doesn't come with android, and I don't think it's what they call a smart phone (never used one so, I don't know), but for the basic stuff it's ok. One of the things I like the most of it, is that it's practical (it even has a 1,2 mp camera) and it's small enough to fit in my pocket... The only downside I've found so far is that I must switch to windows in order to save my address book (through a software downloaded from LG's website)... YMMV, though

Sorry just seen this. While I would love a smart phone I'd be ropeable if it was nicked so I stick to my old, its not dinosaur old, Nokia. I've had it for about 8 years and its been a good unit. Sure I can't get video calls, mms, check facebook, and I have a monotone ring tone but I wouldn't do that anyway cause that costs money and I have no interest in things like facebook anyway.

It happens.

Consider a lanyard for your next mobile.

OK.

I'm quite enjoying life without a phone

My friend is going to give me her old blackberry which I'm going to use for another 6 months and then I'll be up for an upgrade.

If she used both hands at once she could take the phone unnoticed. Noticing hands in pockets is different from noticing what those hands are doing in the pockets.

@ sycamorex

You have to be careful when going to very crowded places. Pickpockets observed people and watch when they put wallets, cellphones etc in and out of their pockets that way they know which pocket to attack.

If I were you I put a sharp pencil in the pocket and if any pickpockets tried to put their hands in your pocket, they get a painful sting. Of course, remember it is there so you don't sting yourself.

BTW, there are apps that trigger an alarm of some sort if your phone gets stolen. Of course, you'll need some way to activate it. If a cop is around some of them will have access cellphones and computers and can trigger the signal for you and hopefully the culprit is still there.

If your phone gets stolen AND the SIM card removed and changed, then there are apps that will alert your "buddy". But this should be planned - before losing the phone.

I think its use will be more to reset your passwords etc . and use services that allow you to delete apps remotely.

OK.
