I agree it would be nice if more games and software was designed to run on Linux. I think aswell that there should be a more competive market of os manufactures, rather than one company having a monopoly, as it is now.

In order to get good, big title games on Linux there has to be more demand (in pocket book terms).

Game engines are currently been offered for the Linux platform that can perform to snuff.

An updated OpenGL spec, improvements in SDL, etc. will all help games programmers/designer deliver game engines and games built on them to Linux at a lower cost, with higher quality and performance.

I think it will happen...at this rate it beginning to make more sense that porting to Mac. Heck, it is already kind of starting.

Now we just need to buy the games.

I am happy to buy games for my linux box that match those for windows, but I fail to see where I can buy them. Maybe things are different in the US but here in every games shop I go to I am lucky to see a game for a mac pc let alone one thats compatible with linux.
I noticed even loki that were making windows games run on linux have not had much success.
I suggest, just for now, rather than making games for linux, that programmers make linux an OS that can be compatible with windows, while still being superior. Some linux distros ship with wine and if winex can be made to sign with a distro then the world will buy linux.
I know some hardcore unix engineers will disagree on allowing compatibility with windows, but in my opion the only way linux can take the market from windows is by including wine/winex in the package. Then when it has the advantage programmers will dump microsoft and make programs for linux.

I'm sorry....

It's this type of backwards logic that keeps the situation the way it is.

"I want to be free of windows - so long as everything I need is compatible with windows"

GAH!!!

I agree, it's a bit contradictory. IMO the whole idea is to dispense with all things doz, and after a 3 month wormapalooza you'd think the idea would take better hold

It's not just that. Some people can't seem to understand how the whole compatibility issue is the root of the entrapment. I mean hell, windows programs aren't even compatible with themselves - forced upgrade path so-to-speak.

Information is only free if everyone can read it - regardless of the program they (can afford) to use. I mean, I like games but, it really is missing the whole point.

Yes I bought it version 9.0 but I don't happy with it, because the terrible hardware 3d support. I have installed mandrake and 3D was working immidiatly.

You are probably more experienced than me. I am only suggesting though that wine and winex are included in linux distros and then in time when Linux has the upper hand we won't need them anymore.

I don't quiet understand. If games were sold to run on Linux then it will be good for me, I don't know about how it will be for Transgaming.

SuSE 9.1 includes DOSbox .61 by the way,... So just a mention, but many DOS services will be run-able with that...
