Opinions on Good Inkjet Printers

Hello.

I just want some people's opinions on good color inkjet printers.

I'd like something around $100 or less that isn't an ink hog. All the new HP printers seem to hog ink like crazy, although their quality is amazing.

If you have an inkjet that you love, uses little ink, makes nice prints, please tell me about it. :-) I plan to do thorough research before I buy another printer.

Thanks!

I don't have a printer myself, i jsut use my sisters which is an hp deskjet 3320. The print quality is excellent and it doesn't SEEM to use a lot of ink (though i really don't do much printing!). I'm actually gonna buy a printer some time this month and i was planning on getting an inexpensive canon. I've used different canon printers over the years and never had a single problem (i don't remember which model i'm gonna get, i have it written down somewhere and i'll post it later).

One of the best ones I've seen is the Canon i550 color printer.

http://www.usa.canon.com/html/conCpr...&section=10213

It prints 18 ppm black and 11 ppm color w/4800x1200 dpi resolution and even has 4 separate ink tanks so when you run out of one color, you just have to replace that color instead of a single tri-color cartridge. The only thing is that I don't know if it has Linux drivers for it.

I just bought an Epson C82 and I'm actually really pleased with it. I had two Lexmark printers before this one and they were absolute pieces of junk. In fact I've been think about going all "Office Space" on them. But it was reasonably cheap (~$100), has 4 individual ink cartidges, and there are Epson printer drivers available.

Well, I'm not looking for Linux compatible printers or drivers. I simply want to see what people have to say about their printers. I've read reviews on PCWorld.com and elsewhere, and usually, people are completely for, or completely against certain printers.

I just want to get a few more opinions. :-) But thanks for the linuxprinting website. I didn't know about that one.

I have a Deskjet 540 that is still going.. those old HPs are great. Nowadays you have to look out for kill chips and other scummy measures HP and Lexmark use to make sure you are buying their (and only their) liquid gold. I'd avoid them both.. better to pay a little more for the printer up front than buy one that they sell at a loss to lock you into their ink supply. And who wants to support a printer company that uses the DMCA anti-circumvention law to go after companies that make compatible cartridges.

When the old HP runs out of ink again I'll switch to a laserjet 5L I have laying around, but if I was in the market for another inkjet I'd look at the number of individually changeable/refillable cartridges.. more is generally better for quality and is the way to go, unless you are forced to change all colors when only one runs out.
