Microsoft has really tried every which way to circumvent open standards and now with Office 12, they are going to introduce OpenXML(tm) which combines ZIP and XML and is available royalty free if you subscribe to OpenXML!?!? Serious. But heres the funny part of it. They are going to introduce one more file extension ???x (xlsx, docx, pptx ...) and it will be the default. I cant imagine the integration scenario with one release of the same single OS suite.
