If you consider this 'rant', sorry...
First, it was the GRUB bootloader becoming 'Windows-esque'. To developers credit, legacy GRUB was compatible with new releases.
But now, for the first time, wired networking does not work out of the box (2 times, actually).
This is a new laptop. I loaded 10.04 LTS, and it didn't connect wired. Restart networking did nothing. I have 12.04 LTS live, and it didn't connect.
So I went to 'Official Documentation'.

Great info. [sic]

This topic assumes that you already know the correct settings to use. If not, you may need to ask your network administrator or look at the settings of your router or network switch.

HUH? Ask the network administrator???
Are 99% of Linux users THEIR OWN NETWORK ADMINISTRATORS???
Even if they're not,
how about a link to an Official Documentation page which helps users 'Manually set [OBTAIN] network settings'?
That's NOT open source, IMO.
Sir Rance-alot OUT!!!
