There are plenty of sites that provide free stuff, like this master piece of the open source (LQ)

Are there any sites that provide soccer news, that aren't copyrighted? I don't want to have copyright problems, but I surely want to have tons of soccer news at my site. Some site with the same philosophy of the open source community.

well ... when you copy someones articles you are always in the process of breaching copy right. The easiest way to get around that is to quote and give a reference to the original. Alternatively re-word the news so you are using the information (which is public domain since it was published in such a way). That said, if you re-worded a book and sold it you'd still be on morally shaky ground especially if it is too close.

If you want to publish news and you are in no position to gather said news, then you are in no position to publish news. If you want to browse the web for info and release it, you are running behind and your content is likely to be outdated.

Open source code is not about you downloading it, changing a variable here and there, as well as the credits and the title and releasing it for profit. You can look at it, learn from it, re-use it and all, but if you go and just recycle it with your own name, it seems unlikely that anyone getting wind of that is going to be too supportive of you and may well take actions you won't enjoy.

We release open sourced code to let people learn, and enhance overall knowledge, and for project management reasons (such as open contribution) not so people can come along say "hey i support this spirit, i'll copy that and post it on my site claiming to be my product"

Similarly people releasing stories online are unlikely to support you copying (plagerising) their work. Image someone grabbed the linux source files, renamed some things and released it as JohnOS ...

What exactly do you want to do with said articles? do you want to do a flier for your soccer buddies, or do you want host it on a website. Because you making fliers is unlikely to attract too much issues, you hosting the same info as someone else a few hours later ... seems sorta pointless ... consider the alternative, check your favourite sites, see what they are hosting, then do a quick summary, and link to it. Sorta like slashdot but without the discussion forum ...

PS if you are hell bent on grabbing articles from somewhere and hosting them (even with giving propper credit) you should talk to a lawyer ... because you never know who is going to take offence to what you are doing ... especially since you are walking a fine line

What I want is a site that provides soccer information (doesn't neccesarily has to be soccer news) so that I coud post it on my site

I don't want my site to have lots of soccer news, just 3-5 news per day, with the most relevant things of the day

I guess the easiest way to do this, is, as you said, rewriting articles

Other way of doing this is to find sites that provide soccer news, and state that you can re-publish that info (in that case, I'll still quote the news, and give the correct links)

However, is there any place were I could grab images, without violating copyright issues?

Oh, you mean like what X.org is doing to XFree! :o Might not be the spirit of open source, but it's certainly the GPL's spirit.

To original poster: look into RSS (really simple syndication) news feeds. I'm not aware of one for soccer, but there must be a bazillion of 'em, so wouldn't surprise me... aw heck, I just googled it and found this one instantly: http://syndication.soccerway.com/rss/feed.php

Hee hee hee ... well that is the eye of the beholder issue ... isn't it. Some might look at X and say its a rip off, and to others it's a fork.

I'd say there are some subtle differences to plagerism as it is known that it is a fork. What i meant was no implication of anyone doing previous work ...

That said, i guess you have a point there.
