I think that people want peace so much that one of these days government had better get out of their way and let them have it.– Dwight D. Eisenhower

the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money it values more, it will

“Politicians are more likely than people in the general population to be sociopaths. I think you would find no expert in the field of sociopathy/psychopathy/antisocial personality disorder who would dispute this… That a small minority of human beings literally have no conscience was and is a bitter pill for our society to swallow — but it does explain a great many things, shamelessly deceitful political behavior being one.”—Dr. Martha Stout, clinical psychologist and former instructor at Harvard Medical School

She's destroying my Europe” (The Ex Chancelor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Helmut Kohl)
----
You do not expect me to just leave this citation here, without putting my oar in...
I have never liked this man, I have never voted for him. I knew, that the German unification was bought from France with the Euro and was all in all a rushed, ill-prepared bungling... However. This citation has the same effect on me as THE PHOTO :

A darned big lump in my throat.

The objection to politics and politicians, the primary indictment against all their works and ways, is that they spoil life. Human life is naturally a lovely, enjoyable, attractive thing. We are all conscious that if we could only be left alone, life would be glorious and desirable and we could do almost anything with it. But the politicians never let us alone; and while we are all busily trying to do our poor best with our lives under such throttling conditions as they put upon us, they are busily trying to thwart us.– Albert Jay Nock, “Pearls Before Swine” [January 4, 1922]

That the aggressor, who puts himself into the state of war with another, and unjustly invades another man's right, can, by such an unjust war, never come to have a right over the conquered, will be easily agreed by all men, who will not think that robbers and pirates have a right of empire over whomsoever they have force enough to master, or that men are bound by promises which unlawful force extorts from them.– John Locke, The Second Treatise of Civil Government [1690]

Tis to a mechanical Instinct, which is found in many Men, and not to true Philosophy, that most Arts owe their Origin.” - Voltaire, from the “Letters concerning the English nation”.

I L O V E this phrase. And it gives proof of Voltaire's multilingualism. Would the French know their philosophers a little better, their revolution could have succeeded.

To you who will create the twenty-first century, we say, from the bottom of our hearts,
TO CREATE IS TO RESIST.
TO RESIST IS TO CREATE.

Glenglassoch, Glen Lossie, Glendullan Glenmorangie
I prefer them to Cointreau which I find too orangey.
