@cascade9: Well as far as And Justice For All is concerned, this is what happens when you let artists master their stuff, instead of letting a professional audio engineer do it. I also agree that album could be so much better if it were mastered properly. Normally I am not for remasters, unless it is necessary and that album should be remastered.

Artists should never even remaster their work on their own anyways. Case in point the 2004 remaster of Megadeth's album 'Cryptic Writings.' Dave Mustaine pretty much ruined what was a decent Megadeth album.
I agree. While I like the album (And Justice...), it should be remastered to decrease the risk of ear cancer:)

I dont think it was the mastering, it was the mixing. Flemming Rasmussen, who is a professional, did the engineering and is co-credited with production anyway.

The 'remastered' version of "...And Justice For All" I was refering to isnt really 'remastered'. It was produced by a fan, who never had access to the original master tapes. Technically, its just playing with equalizing, harmonics and compressing/limiting on the released version of the album. ;) It was never an offical release, and IIRC it appeared on demonoid.

I've got no problem with people who know what they are doing remastering albums. Lots of people have done a decent job, even on stuff they were in the band with. I havent heard the remastered 'Cryptic Writings' (Not really a megadeth fan). But with record companies, and CD plants, pushing up limits to the point where there is no dynamic range, that could be the cause of 'Cryptic Writings' sounding awful. It might not be the fault of Mr. Mustaine. ;)

What the flipping flip was that? Dude, you need a meditation.

OK, let's quote one more from Metallica;

You know, of all the responses I've ever got from saying how bad I think "...And Justice For All" is, this has got to be the most interesting. Meditation? For disliking that album? I dont think its going to help much. :D

"Kill Em All" is still one of my favourite albums, "Ride The Lightning" is prety good, "Master Of Puppets" is not bad....I avoid everything after that as much as possible. I still rank "...And Justice For All" as one of the most disappointing ablums ever. Sorry if my opinion of that album rubs you the wrong way.

Since such threads have no necromancy deadline..

Can anyone explain this quote from portal? I will censor it(contains not so polite words) but you can click link or use logic to figure it out.

I'm not sure, but that sounds similar to another quote I've read in Spanish that says something like: "Never argue with a stupid person since they will drag you down to their level of discussion" (or something like that; I don't remember it quite well right now). Which sort of means that if you argue with a stupid person, you will fall into their level of stupidity sooner or later.

(can't remember which song, and can't be bothered googling it. :p )

That is out of context and misleading. The full text is -

I've heard you say many times
That you're better than no one
and no one is better than you.
If you really believe that
you know there is nothing to win
and nothing to lose.
From fixtures and forces and friends your sorrow does stem
That hype you and type you making you feel
That you gotta be just like them

It's from To Ramona. I love that song, and much of his writing from that era.

i will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind

- Pearl Jam Indifference

This whole song but for brevity sake, here's one verse

"While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society’s pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole
That he’s in" - Bob Dylan - It's Allright Ma (I'm Only Bleedin')

I'd also add that I also admire a lot of Terry Pratchett's stuff; he's a great writer ;)
The only fiction writer I know that has footnotes, and the footnotes often take the joke one twist further; the sort of stuff that actually makes people giggle in public!

“Authority is supposedly grounded in wisdom, but I could see from a very early age that authority was only a system of control and it didn't have any inherent wisdom. I quickly realised that you either became a power or you were crushed”

You speak of liberation and when the people rule
Well ain't it people rule right now, what difference would there be?
