Who cares, there have been so many ends of the world and none of them have come true.
If you want a year, I'd say 2018 is an important year. It's just an approximation, but using real world events of the past. Look at previous events and you will derive the same year. It won't be the end, it will be the beginning.
Well imo civilization faces a new problem at least as threatening as the end of the world. In all the buzz about a possible apocalypse, i dont think proper attention was paid to the fact that we as a species ARE TOTALLY OUT OF TWINKIES!!!!!

Fiscal cliff - I would prefer something more time wasting like any other ancient calendar not being documented beyond 2050 - say.
Fiscal cliff isn't the end of the world. My understanding is that the bush era tax cuts will lapse and so Obama will be quite happy this time waiting for the neo-cons to submit realistic alternates that don't affect their constituents.
