No red eye with LEDs

I have a w800i which has an LED light on it. When using it as the flash for the camera you get no "red eye" effect.

I just thought it was cool, no more devil looks. :)

i'm fairly sure my wife's w800i doesn't have any "flash" on it at all. the LED's are fairly useless as anything other than a torch, and the light they chuck out doesn't even come slightly close to the light from a flash bulb.

can you still use it to make phone calls?

But I like red eyes!

Tell that to the police departments around here, who have switched from xenon strobes to LED strobes which actually seem much brighter than their old strobes.

There is absolutely no reason one could not come up with a good LED-based camera strobe - in fact it may be easier to control the color temperature compared to other strobes, as well as modulate the brightness for exactly what the CCD needs since LEDs can be dimmed almost infinitely.

Now my question is this: will the firmware driving such a strobe be Linux-based? Does the w800i run Linux? I just checked Sony's spec page for that phone and it does not mention Linux anywhere. ;)

When in camera mode go into the settings. There's a setting to switch on the light. When you take a picture with it the light becomes about 2 to 3 times brighter to take the picture and then it goes back to normal brightness. ;)

The day Sony uses Linux will be the day hell freezes over. I hope I'm wrong. :)

Well, they did use lame for their CD rootkit as I recall, so as long as it is about screwing their customers I think Sony is fine with Open Source!
