New Linux Comunity - Help Needed :)

Hi
Some of you have probably visited my site so they know what this is about.. for those who didn't, here's the main ideea:
I'm trying to promote a new Linux community, just like linuxquestions. It's not like this site isn't doing a great job... it is and I am grateful for this. For the time being it only has a few essential tutorials but I hope we can change this .The reason I'm trying this is just for the sake of variety, among many others.. It wouldn't hurt having another resource center...
I have recently added a forum to this site and if all goes well it will become a flourishing comunity.
So... what do you think? Are you wiling to help me? I only need your spare time and your good mood

Ps: the link is in my sig. Follow the link in the main page to get to the forum. Post there the questions that you might have.

Regards

yes.. seems the hosting company has reached the 1st of april in front of us... and went down for a reboot right when the forum came up. Sorry for that. It is a form of advertising, I know.... but I could not find another way of promoting this project.

A good idea would be to exchange links with other startup sites.

Another form of promotion is to build up content on your own. This will increase hits from search engines for relevant topics. This is the best way to promote: content and link exchange. Also consider many techniques to make your site and pages "search-engine friendly". Google has a good topic on this. Just search for it. I forget the link to the actual page.

Your website traffic will increase a lot by these techniques, believe me!

I am familliar with the search engine rankings system. My site has it's own original content, I assure you .
Posting here is a form of recruiting new forum users and moderators who have experience in this matter, not to deliberately spam or create user discomfort by reading thrash.

I like the look of your site but I have to say I don't see any reason for a new forum for posting/asking for linux help. The reason why this site is so popular is because it is a single site dedicated to linux software and linux compatable software. People don't need to go to any other site to ask their questions they can usually get them answered here. I try to answer whatever questions that I can here but having to read multiple sites to just to help people that could have posted here just doesn't seem like it's helping the community. Having a site dedicated to HOWTO's, Linux-centric articles and the like might be a better way to go.

Instead of making a new site why not offer your time and energy into making this site better? I don't blame you for wanting to try, but I just don't see the value in another site that will be dedicated to answering linux questions.

What about the pride of creating something from scratch? I guess everybody is entitled to that, even if the content/subject is very common. You may not see value in that, true, but for the owner of the site it is his most prized possession and the apple of his eye

Believe me. It gives great satisfaction to me to have my own corner of the web: something that I can call my own.

PS: The site still doesn't show up for me

Having your own place on the net, the satisfaction of doing something good, sometimes better than others have to offer.. this all bows down to the need of doing something that will help others, but I would not discuss ethics in a linux related forum..
If most of you think that every new thing is wrong or worthless, I have proof that this is not correct. I mean.. linuxquestions began from somewhere... right? It had a long way up... it had it's own "foes"... that didn't stop this site... Many people will just go to a portal page and see my site, not knowing that there are more, better ones out there...

ps. Just emailed the host... nothing...

That's why I said I don't blame him for trying to create a new repository for information not that I don't see the value in creating a website. Why split attention from the number of people here who have questions with another site where people can post questions that they can get answered here? Why split peoples attention? If you have one single place to ask your questions and get them answered I don't see the value in another site that does the samething. It weakens a community.

I can definately see the value in creating a website, but dividing the attention of helpful people and the people who need the help is not helpful....

Have you ever thought of people that do not know about this site? Yes, I admit.. it is verry popular, but still.. there are people who do not know about it. You can't just demand that all the Linux users come to linuxquestions for help.. maybe they don't wan't to or they can't for a specific reason...

More power to you. I am giving you my opinion on the site. You asked for help and I gave you the only help that I was willing to offer. I wish you luck on your site though.

Site loads for me. I don't think that your tutorials on the front page go into enough detail - your installing programs section, for example, may as well say "read the INSTALL file": you don't go into alternatives. Personally, I think that your strongest section will be the forum.

And I am allowing this as the site is non-commercial/profit and community growth is always a good thing.
