New Jargon

Ok, REALLY newbie question: What is the exact definition of a Wiki? And WHY?

Is this another weird acronym, like the Linux standard which is to have an acronym that refers to itself.

Example: WINE (WINE Is Not an Emulator)

Moved: More suitable in General as this is not a Linux - General technical type question.

And have you looked at the wiki for this answer? I believe it stands for quick or quickly, maybe you can figure it out from there.
