NASA runs on linux!!! :D
well... their weather tracking systems any way, I don't know about everything else. I was watching NASA TV today before the shuttle launch, and they were showing the weather and radar pictures. Because it wasn't in full screen, and the guy controling it was moving windows around, you could see the Gnome desktop, taskbar, and system monitor behind it. :D
Actually, it's not much of a surprise. Would you trust how many billions of dollars of equipment and several lives in space to the power (or lack there of) of microsoft or macOS? A no brainer for me... |
Much and all as I think it'd be great if NASA did use Linux, just having Gnome running doesn't mean that it's Linux. Gnome will run on most *nix systems not just Linux.
If you are really curious you might want to check out this http://flightlinux.gsfc.nasa.gov/ Tux is already exploring outer space!!!
I take it back, shot_baker. It seems that NASA are getting involved in the revolution after all! Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh, but my argument still stands that just running Gnome doesn't mean that Linux is running underneath. Go NASA!
No doubt about it, gnome is as solid on linux as it is on a solaris system. I'd flip when I see Gnome for Win32, is it there yet? I'll do a quick search now.
And it seems we are there too!!! :D
Gnome on Cygwin (Win32)?
yeah, thats right about gnome running on other operating systems. a premature assumption on my part. sorry. :(
that is cool, though how they are using it up there. First penguin in space by my book of records :p |
