No, it isn't, but some more clues - it's by an ultra-famous guitarist, played the frozen-rope guitar loop on Bowie's track Heroes and is married to the voice of Brum (UK-only kids show...).

I feel like I should know that but I have no idea.
He was from Southport, too (my housemate, not the guitarist) Small world...

"waltzing matilda".
This is funny, cause I thought it was Tom Waits' "Waltzing Matilda." I always thought it was his song, not a cover...
Thanks for the post!

I think we listen to different types of music, Wiliam.

"Tom Traubert's Blues", Waits uses the chorus only from Waltzing Matilda, quite deliberately - freshly kicked out by his woman he's out on the street with his suitcase.

Maybe we could work up some interest in this odd niche taste in music to pass on to the wee ones that follow after us? After all, from what I've seen, a lot of them could use some taste.

another hint:

His wounds so deep and sair,
And she plaited a garland for his breast,
And a garland for his hair.
Sounds like it could be part of The Cowboy's Lament.

King Crimson have a new CD out - The Power to Believe. I'm listening to it now via my single-ended class-A valve amp through large transmission-line speakers. There is some extraordinarily deep bass on several tracks, and the whole album seems to be superb.
