I was over at plus.net (my ISP's homepage) finding out about upgrading my DSL connection speed from 512k to 1mb and I noticed that thay had what seems to be detailed instructions for configuring dial on demand under Linux.
here is a link just in case anyone finds it handy.
looks like a smart ISP is all. they understand that a % of their customers, and potential customers use *nix and want to make their ISP more appealing over their competitors by offering *nix support.
my ISP ( omninet.net.au ) was very supportive when I set up my Smoothwall and needed a little more information than normal. They even said it was a good idea to have a linux firewall.
They use Linux themselves ( I think Debian, but not sure ).
When I had problems with a script kiddie ( another omninet customer ) probing my connection, I emailed my snort & firewall logs and no further problems from that idiot.
One very satisfied customer.
I'm also with PlusNet and in general, they're pretty good. However, they've just "upgraded" their web mail and now you can'
t access multiple email accounts unless you use "IE6 or higher" (their words). I use Mozilla 1.7, which is clearly much "higher" than IE, but sadly it doesn't work. Looks like a downgrade to me!!
dude, if you looking to upgrade from 512k to 1mb check out blueyonder. their 512kb went up too 750k and in january they upgrading it to 1mb, and you still play the same 25quid a month.
only downside is you have a shitty upstream, 128kb

I agree about them being good, as I have no complaints about them or the service offered by them,,
I can access (login to) my online mail using firefox 1.0 although admittedly (I have never tried to receive mail from it) I dont use it as I run a mail server from my loft

I have an unlimited bandwidth 1mb connection with plus.net for £29 per month, the "plus" is their upload speed is around 280kb (there or there abouts,, I cant remember) and I have 250mb web storage included at 50:1 contention ratio (which as its and English based outfit & Im in Scotland offers me very little in the way of speed loss)
I was very interested in blueyonder and ntl but cable service stops 30m from my property and they want extremely crazy money to extend the service.

Don't wanna hear about a bad upstream. I have a 2.4 mbit down connection, but a 20 kbps up. Adelphia Power-Link
