Thumbs up My server. A bit of info and an invite...

I just wanted to share a little something with you folks

This was more of a reply to another thread and it got a bit long so I started my own thread.

---------------------------
I have just a couple of things to say .

First, you can play on my server. I think I'm a decent admin and I don't abuse rights!

My Server IP is 208.46.61.138

Please feel free to come by and play. My server is down tonight for maintanence, but will be back up tomorrow at 9am

It is a Real server. Not a desktop box running a game.

I built the server myself. It runs Windows Server 2003 and between me and 2 other guys we have a real server that we built, a rack at a buddies place of work, and a T1 line dedicated to only this server! I think because of this we sometimes don't like to tolerate bitching (but we do). I mean I built the freakin thing. We pay for the Electric, the T1, and all the other network stuff. We are all Network/Server guys at our real jobs during the day so we thought it would be fun to do this and host all the stuff ourselves

Here are the specs:

Compaq Proliant 3000 Rack mount Server.
Dual PIII 500 Processors
1.5GB DDR RAM
Dual 9.1 GB 10,000RPM SCSI Drives in RAID 1+0
T1 Line dedicated only to this box for gaming.
-------------------------------------------------------

With 20 players playing on this server it uses only 40% of the T1's bandwidth and all players usually have about 80 ping.

The processor usage is under 10% all the time. RAM usage is about 430MB out of 1.5GB.

We can run 40+ players on this server without problems at all. I usually run a 20 Player CS game and a 20 Player TFC game.

Yes...it's kind of expensive. But we have the knowleged and we like to play the game (TFC and/or CS), so we did it.

We are all over age 30! Yes for real! We are.

We are not a bunch of immature kids who are paying for admin rights somewhere. We are adults who like to play the game and Built and host everything ourselves.

I will say this lastly. It sure does get old having people come into my server with names like bigcock. And when I ask them politely to change their name they tell me to F**K off. That is just irritating. IF you're the type of person that likes to do that you will get kicked/banned by me. If you can be half way civil we will all have fun

Heck I even allow BHOPs on my servers

Good night and God Bless...

Congrats Whitehat. I had to give up online gaming for the next 6 months (it was killing my studies) but I will check it out. Did you get to put Linux on your work laptop?

Pcghost,

I burned the 1st Slack 9.1 CD at about 5:30pm before I went home tonight. The 2nd CD was still coming down on my other desktop box at work. I'll be happily burning tomorrow morning and attempting an install

I'll post my results Thanks for askin man!

Yeah.....you know.....It sorta burns me that it's running Windows 2003 server. If it was my server only I would run Linux on it.

It is shared between me and 2 other guys and neither of them can do anything on Linux. Since they need to be able to control things on the server and whatnot it has a Windows OS.

It may however get "given" to me. If/when it does, you can bet Linux will be running on that baby

That means that i have to dig up my CS copy and give it a try?
*thinks*
Sounds like fun though.
*hopes newbies don't get ganged on as on other servers*
*writes up the addy*
I heard that the best with Win 2003 was that it didn't come with the stupid XP start-menu as default. *grins*

So is there a time when people usually play?

Got on for a minute last night to check my ping. I was the only person on and a ping around 120. (not bad)

for some reason it sits idle for about 3-4 days a week.

It is full (20 players in TFC and almost 20 in CS) on almost every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night from like 7pm until 2am.

TFC gets way more players than CS does. Kinda funny

I'm a TFC man myself.

Go figure

I play on Friday nights from about 9pm to midnight. (not every Friday....but quite a few of them).
