My Monitor is "Out of Range"
 

Hi, I am not exactly a computer newbie but I'm not a technical guy.

To bypass my windows Xp login page, I press F8 during boot and choose to start in Safe Mode. I'm sure this takes you to the administrator's account, and everything would work perfectly if the administrator's last resolution wasn't too much for my current monitor. So now I just need a way to change the resolution of the account (Administrator) without actually going into any of the accounts on the computer. Anyone have a simple command? ty.

LQ is a place to solve problem regarding linux(or any unix based machine).

Well, you can't change much in Safe Mode.

Instead of F8 ... when you start , use F7
... and choose the line : VGA ......

Then you can make the changes, when the Desktop is up.

I am having the same problem but I am not thinking that it is the resolution but the refresh rate of the monitor . I remember this happening to me the first time I installed linux with an LCD monitor, some thing like 65khz or 59 hz , I don't remember but I am pretty sure it is this. but I don't remember where and how to change this lol

I spam pressed F7 during boot and nothing happened.

I actually found the answer by just switching monitors with my other computer that was native to the resolution, but it would still be helpful to find a way around it.

I would expect windows to use 640x480 in safe mode. And that might also give an 'out of range' message.
