some people in michigan had a banner on their site: "Friends don't let friends use Windows... get linux" and later after i got back from a bad trip, my buddy wants to experiment with linux on his new P3 1.1, so I get RedHat 7.2 cd's & Partition Magic fullversion. carve the drive apart, install redhat, have fun, discover LQ, try Mandrake 8.2, get tired... the dell P3 is a testbed. then buy extra parts for an extra comp, then the dell becomes a router/server/firewall project, which goes thru mandrake 8.2, redhat 7.3, failed to get gentoo or suse, then ended up on slack. just moved off the dell, thinking about MOSIX... it's been a blast...

hey! I can hand out email accounts like they're business cards, that NEVER happened in windows! i'd have wound up as a braincase full of tapioca pudding if i learned how to do this stuff in winxp first <shudder>

p.s. i don't recommend partition magic, or [borrowing] it like i regretfully had to back then... every time it saw the ext2 partition, it said "unsupported type" and crashed, that's after it claims to support the stupid fs, and all I wanted to do was delete the partition. magic? naahhhh get diskdrake or something else with a clue

Well for me linux means a lot.I first started using linux from Red Hat 6.0 way back in 1999.I am a kind of rebel and was always against the domination (or monopoly) of a particular business in a field. So I dumped microsoft and started using Linux.I tried to introduce Linux to all my friends and those computer science students but all of them were not interested.Even these computer science students were taught everything in windoooze and resisted change.A programmer asked me why there is no conio.h in linux and why there is no good interface, documentation and help available for programming. He was fed up with the gcc compiler and had very low opinion of linux.Of course i tried to tell about the man pages, and tried to explain to him why linux is better-but it was for no use. Those who were stuck with visual studio stayed in the windoooze.
I had a real rough time at the start
but now things have changed
i am suprised at the fact that so many come to me to ask questions about linux
i must admit that i am not very good
but the respect i got from linux is just amazing
thanks linux
