Funny I would say the same about w2k but XP was part of the reason I switched to Linux. I was a big MS supported up through W2k, it was stable and worked pretty well. Then I bought a nice new laptop with XP and within a month had to reinstall because I had some major spyware crap thing that I wasted a hour or so trying to clean. This was with me running the system highly secure like my w2k system. Then I started having prolems with USB devices, XP will create phantom entries that have to be deleted. then there was the suspend/resume problems, seems like 1 out of 10 times something would prevent the system from going into suspend. Then a few months fo fighting with those problems I got infected with spyware again. I was really disapointed with the speed of XP and how many more steps it took to do anything even after setting all the interfeacs to classic. XP pro should have kept the w2k defaults and XP home should have had the silly search dog and pretty crap. I've also become quite disapointed in w2k3 server, the san problem (818877), the cluster problems (890761), these are both problems I hit on multiple production servers.
