Music Library and player search
 

Hi guys and gals.

I've been trying Rythmbox and Banshee in Fed and Suse to try and import my eeeeenormous library of music. All of which was created and ripped in (off of my own CD's) and tagged using MusicMatch. All of it is stored as WAV files.

Banshee blew up on me and downed both OS disks and would not play anything. What sort of plugin was it asking for? it wouldn't tell me, maybe something to play WAVs, something to read my library perhaps?.

Plus I can't find any Banshee instructions/manual/documentaion at all. Am I being thick?

Rhythmbox actually plays music for me but imported all every single one of circa 4,000 tracks as an unknown song by an unknown artist.

I checked the forums and many people seem to be searching like me for a decent libarian player for their music as they transition from HexPee to Linux

Please point me in the right direction

ps. I am unimpressed with what i have seen as an arrogant attitude at MusicMatch over a long time where the product appears to have gone in a negative direction.

Hmm. in my Mandriva 2006 install on an Athlon 1.6 Gb machine I use Amarok, the native player. Import and convert to MP3 format, simple.

I think the crux of the problem is in the way musicmatch 'tagged' your files. There is no standard for tagging wave files, like id3 tags for mp3 and ogg files. Rhythmbox should play your files fine, but has no idea on how to read the tags (Banshee should work, as it uses gstreamer to play the files, but it would have the same problem reading the tags).

Another way I found from a search of 'musicmatch wav tag' would be to use the MediaMonkey program in expee to convert all your tagged wav files to flac or ogg (or even mp3), thus guaranteeing their linux readability. Just doing a cursory look at the program, it looks like one of the few that can decode musicmatch's tags.
