MS stops Firefox and hotmail

Interesting. Today, updating my resume on Win2k/office 2000 to send out for some companies, I had to boot into Windows. I have a very optimized win2k box with a whole bunch of Free software installed (feels almost like Linux) but with Office 2000 that, although sucks, is the one that companies use to open standard .doc files. Indeed, I use firefox browser for everything, and to my surprise, I went to www.hotmail.com and:

Quote:

Microsoft® .NET Passport no longer supports the Web browser version you are using. Please upgrade to a current Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or later, or Netscape Navigator version 4.08 or later.
I'm using the latest version of firefox in both Windows and Linux. I then tried to go into www.hotmail.com with a Linux box, same firefox version and hey, it works normally....

I've not tried with Mozilla, but I think that one should work..

I guess they are very, very scared with the numbers of peoples using Firefox on Windows machine huh? Regardless to their new (is it out) IE with block pop-up windows...

maybe someone should tell them firefox IS the most current web browser?, M$ hasn't really released a new browser in a few years.. so it cant call IE new

anyways I'm only surprised it would work in linux, I'm surprised windows didn't block access to hotmail unless your using IE on windows

Curiously, it seems to be working now. The site was "down" all day(with FF that is). Very strange though, since I could use IE to login but not Firefox. I bet they are changing some .NET Passport protocols or something, since there's a new ICQ in the house (even heavier and non-friendly as usual, with 10.000 functions, even though you use at most, 4 features and indeed the ordinary ads).

Well, I would not be surprised if soon Firefox and hotmail won't work, and Gaim won't connect to MSN again :). At least for a while. It's just sit, wait, and see when that day will come... again...

I was able to get on it with Safari

LoL, yeah M$ must not like something in the firebird/fox set of browsers. just got connection refused when trying to get there with my firebird browser on winXP pro.

oh well, i very very very seldom use my hotmail account anyways. like yahoo better.

I am pretty sure MS is not rejecting connections from Firefox browser, cause I just tried accessing it and it went through fine. I think the issue is something local to your installation of FF. Re-installing it should fix the issue.
:)

evaluatinglinux - unless you were doing this in 2004 and have merely delayed posting for a while, I think MMX has moved on from this problem.

Mega Man X 10-17-2008 01:39 PM

LOL, I can't even remember using Win2k :). You can close this thread XavierP if you want. I doubt this will help anyone anyways :)

So done. I though ancient threads had a warning about their age.....
