Microsoft changes it's "Get the Facts" Campaign
Reuters, Washington DC: It appears that Microsoft has changed tactics in it's "Get the Facts" Campaign; it has moved onto Windows error messages, which they claim are more frequent and informative than in Linux.
"We're confident that by advertising Windows error dialogues, we can show that Windows has better error detection, retention and repetition to enable faster debugging than in Linux" says a spokesman. An advert of an error message appeared in Toronto earlier this week. "The variety and depth of errors means that Windows detects them better than Linux, which barely produces any at all. How can Linux claim to be less buggy if there's no error messages?" stated Steve Ballmer, CEO Microsoft. Microsoft has been under pressure from Linux in the past few years, due to Linux apparrent stability, security and better design. Microsoft has however disputed the claims, and launched the "Get The Facts" Campaign, with the Gartner Group providing some research supporting the campaign. "We can see that Windows has again outperformed Linux, this time in it's error display technology. We can conclusively say that Windows has more error dialogues than Linux" Gartner reported shortly after Microsoft's announcement. Reacting to the adverts, Linus Torvalds said "Sure Linux has error messages; we just put them all in a screensaver" ------------------------------------------- Yeah it's satire, it's not real. Well of course Windows has more error messages.. it has more things go wrong :D
And when I used Windows, I don't recall 90% of them making any sense to me. "x00012ADFS10002883FDAP Exception Error" <-- Yeah, errors like that make alot of sense of why the kernel crashed and gave the blue screen.. :rolleyes: |

I feel people have missed the point; I didnt write this to show how (un)stable windows is, as we all know ourselves; its one of many reasons why we switched to Linux.
I wrote it as a piece of humour, about the picture I saw which made me laugh, and how I thought MS would "spin" errors into something positive, and given the latest joke from MS was the "Get the Facts" campaign I included it. It's a bit of fun, nothing more. :) [Edit: Could it be it sounds too realistic? Anyone from MS want to offer me a job? :D:cool:] Sam |

its like ford saying BMW's suck cause the "problem with engine" light never goes on in hte bmw. in linux "error" messages in teh console are much more informative than windows popups. in linux it says "x is missing from y" in windows it says "something is missing" |

i upgraded from Windows2K to XP at the same time i got Linux.... and my internet connection was a dialup with an anchant software modem. the company was long gone, but its dead site did have an XP driver that was "digitally signed by microsoft" but the hardware was old and crap, but the only modem i had.... and it worked ok in win2k. so i installed the modem in windowsXP and Redhat 9. Windows XP error message : "Error Code 10" i looked up error code 10.. "Error code 10: the device could not be started because it is unplugged or not functioning correctly" what !!! not functioning correctly was the error message !!!! The Linux Redhat9 Error message: "This module was compiled with a different gcc version than the kernel, this is known not to work. please re-compile the module" the linux error message may be jiberish to uneducated computer users... but itleast it gets you started.. error code 10: it aint workin cos it isnt working dont tell me anything ! so dont even joke about it :P |
I also love the way Windows sternly chides you about the proper way to shut down your computer, EVERY time it restarts after crashing due to its own faulty OS or applications. I always want to throw something at the screen, but I realize it's not the screen's fault. :D

my all time favorite Windows annoyance was ....drum rolll....Windows has finished installing the software for your unknown device. LOL, course that only pertained to Windows 9X/ME
Windows has detected an unknown device and is installing the drivers for it. |

when i was tryin out longhorn, i got the same code 10 error for my integrated NIC after installing nfoce drivers. the funny thing is taht in longhorn, the error message is even less detailed. it just says "code:10" it seems that you are actually loosing functionality as you upgrade OS's from ms. |
