LOL, Microsoft has started competing with Google even on these fronts, reminds me of this, this,this
and most recently this.
On a more serious note, i think direct computer control through the mind for the masses if far far away. That'd need a tremendous amount of concentration which currently only certain yogics can achieve.
abattoir: not really, its really not much of any stretch from current technology to command computers thru the brain just by thinking, the only problem would be projecting into the brain, thats not exactly something i hear is touched.
@SciYro
It is very difficult to control your thoughts, it is similar to an "involuntary reaction", though it cant be termed that. Also, the "speed" of human thought is something that is unmatched, our minds waver a lot, some of our thoughts we are conscious of, others we arent, it'd be very difficult to channelize them into "commands". However still if these barriers/limitations are overcome, then it'd be interesting.
And definitely i won't trust Microsoft with my thoughts.
abattoir: i still don't see why you need to concentrate at all. Look at your hand, when you move it, how much do you need to concentrate.... i doubt you need a yogi to show you how its done. Similarly, if you implant a small chip in the brain, or some wires, and make it compatible with the brain, the brain should wire itself to send signals thru the implant and those signals simply go to your computer. Like anything, it would only take time for you brain to properly wire itself, and in that time it would take concentration, but over time, the brain rewires to be compatible and use the implant properly.
