Making XP use the standard VGA driver for an old card with no XP driver

I don't know where else to ask this so I'll ask here. My co-worker has a dual monitor setup with a PCI-e card and an old viper pro pci card. I just imaged his computer with XP and of course there are no drivers for the viper pro. On boot though you can see the Windows XP startup screen on the monitor that is attached to the viper. I figure if it can use the viper during the boot splash screen I should be able to tell XP to use the standard VGA.sys driver for this card. Any one know how to do this?

This is probably a long shot and I expect to tell him that he has to buy a new card.:(

No - just tell him to install Linux :-)

PS:
For example:

(and lots of others!)

Do a fresh install of XP.

That looks like a recent card... Radeon x1600? There are drivers for that still... http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...=xp/radeonx-xp maybe? More info on your card would be nice.

I wish I could. Its a work PC. We just went from 2K to XP. I work in desktop support, not Corporate Management. I have no power. :(

Sorry I should have put more info... Its a diamond Viper Pro pci 4 MB (old school). Definitely no drivers. If the answer is no then the answer is no. I'll tell him that the world of Windows and their manufacturer buddies is not like the world of Linux. Of course there is no driver, you wouldn't have to buy new hardware if there was

:D found an old Matrox card and windoze picked it. Case closed.
