Macbook pro good investment?

I'm considering buying a macbook pro and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with mac products. My main goal is to install PCLOS on it and dual boot, but that's if I end up buying it. Two grand is a lot to spend on a laptop.

I have had a few powerbooks and they have all worked out quite nicely for me. They have ATI video cards but other than that, I would expect it to be fine.

As far as the money - go to an apple store and try out a few of the laptops, maybe even compare the keyboard/mouse/screen with other laptops. I very much prefer the keyboard AND trackpad of my powerbook to that of my thinkpad - mind as well make sure you will enjoy using it before dropping the money.

As far as lifetime, I know some people pick up brand new apple hardware, use it for two years and then sell it for a "small loss" - and consider it the lease price. I tend to keep them longer and start doing my own repairs after the applecare runs out.

If you are dual booting, and you would like your other OS to be mac os X, then go for the macbook pro.

My experience with apple products is that when they are good, they are very good. When they are bad, they are absolutely horrible. Now would be a good time to buy a brand new macbook pro. I would avoid anything that was a 'first' apple model (e.g. a revision 1 blue and white G3, a 1st generation imac, etc.) as these tend to be the most problematic.
